Double Decker Chili Cheese Dog Taco

I'm a big fan of chili cheese dogs.  I also love the concept of a double decker taco like they do at Taco Bell.  So, I decided to make the Double Decker Chili Cheese Dog Taco my first entry into the Taco Bizarro.  Here's what I did:

Ingredients -

  • 1 hotdog
  • 1 can of chili
  • Nacho cheese
  • Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 crispy taco shell
  • 1 soft taco shell
Directions (can't really get much easier)
  • Plop a couple dogs on the grill
  • Heat up the chili and nacho cheese
  • Spread some nacho cheese on the soft taco
  • Seat your crispy taco into the soft taco with the cheese acting like the glue to hold it together
  • Add your hotdog, chili and cheese
  • Enjoy!
There's nothing fancy with this one, but if you like chili dogs, you might want to give this a shot.

One More Rule

Ok, I lied... one more rule.  After much debate with my "co-bloggers" I've decided we need to better define just what it is that makes a taco a taco.  Without limiting ourselves too much, I think a taco must meet the following criteria:

  1. You must be able to hold it in your hand to eat it
  2. It must have an edible outer shell (however, it doesn't matter what it's made of or it's texture)
  3. No rules on what you put inside or on top... they just have to be tasty when put together
  4. No rules on size either... they can be bite sized or require 2 hands to pick it up... but you must be able to pick it up.
Now I think I'm done with the rules.  Hopefully we'll have our first concepts posted soon!

The Beginning of a New Journey

Yes, it's true... I love a good taco.  But let's face it... there aren't a lot of foods I don't like.  So, one night while I was enjoying dinner with my wife at California Pizza Kitchen, she had a stroke of genius!  CPK mixes unusual ingredients to make their pizzas (like the Southwest Chicken Burrito Pizza... which is my favorite but not on the menu anymore!) and there are lots of Burger joints stretching our definition of a burger with crazy ingredients you'd never expect like fried chicken skin at BRGR in Pittsburgh.  So, why not go crazy with tacos?

So, we spent a few minutes coming up with some crazy stuff you could do with tacos like a pizza taco or a bacon cheeseburger taco.  Then we went on to our next conversation.  That was a week ago and I haven't been able to stop thinking of new/unusual combinations of ingredients you typically wouldn't see on a taco, but could actually be quite tasty.

Now I'm on a quest to find the most unusual, yet delicious taco I can come up with.  Here are the rules:

  1. Above all, it can't be obvious!  We're not looking for just a tasty taco.  No, no... there are lots of blogs and websites that cover that.  I'm looking for truly unique taco!  I'm sure I'll come across lots of recipes in my quest that sound great, so I won't ignore those, but I'll have to find a way to set those aside so they aren't lost, but not part of the "Taco Bizarro" list.
  2. There really aren't any other rules.  Nothing is off the table so to speak.
That's it for now.  I'll leave you hanging for now as I figure out what my first concept will be.
